Comparison of budget vs. total costs

Use case

Compare the actual costs of a marketing campaign with the budget, broken down by quarter.

Prerequisites

For each marketing campaign, which is tracked in a separate work item, budgets and actual costs are tracked in individual custom number fields. To group the results by their campaign end date, we use a custom date field called End date.

All fields have been created and populated in advance.

Configuration

Work item source

For this project the Filter “Marketing Campaigns” contains the entire project, and was defined in advance.

Field to sum

To compare the budget and cost, select Budget and Costs.

Group by

Group the results by End Date to ensure the costs are correctly grouped. End Date is a custom date field that must also be created.

Time period

Select All-time.

Time interval

To view each quarter separately, select Quarterly.

Time period

For a quarterly view, there are only four entries. Therefore, the default option of 10 rows is enough.

Additional options

Rows per page

The gadget will only refresh when you reload it if “Do you want to refresh your data every 15 minutes?” is not checked.

If you want to have a direct link to the related work items, check “Show work item links”.
