Formula fields are centrally defined but used locally.
This page explains how space admins can now take responsibility for keeping formula field values up to date in their spaces, without depending on Jira administrators for operational tasks.
To empower space admins, a Jira administrator needs to toggle the designated checkbox on the Settings page. The setting is enabled by default.
Advanced Formula Fields are always created and configured by Jira administrators. This ensures consistent logic, governance, and data quality across Jira.
With the space-level access settings, space admins can now view and recalculate formula fields within their own spaces, provided the required permissions are granted.

(for example, when Advanced Formula Fields is accessed via a space tab)

Space admins only see formula fields relevant to their space

Recalculations affect only the current space
This feature is designed to ensure:

Why is this important?
Formula field values often need to be recalculated at specific, predictable moments, such as:

before sprint planning or sprint review meetings

ahead of quarterly (Q1/Q2/…) or management meetings

when preparing reports or status overviews for a space
This ensures clear boundaries and prevents accidental global changes.
The following information will be visible to a space admin if the feature is enabled:

Field name
-
Recalculation status
-
Status of the last 5 calculations

Date and time of the last formula field calculation

User who executed the last calculation
-
Work item where the last calculation was performed
Only the fields associated with that given space and their execution details in said space will be displayed.
